Empowerment

Can you tell me if I should use empowerment on the first session with a client

What do you think might happen if you showed the client how to empower themself? The principles can be thought of as a recipe in some sense. I bit of empathy here, a dash of compassion, a pinch of genuine & real and a bit dollop of empowerment. There may be a tendency to think that so much water has to flow under the bridge before empowerment is offered - because that's usually the case that people need to be heard before thinking about solutions. The answer is therefore definitely maybe. It depends on the circumstances and so it may be totally the right approach. You can only try.
